The Eckhardt House, is a distinguished mid-century architectural gem that bears the recognition of being the only home designed by renowned mid-century architect Robert Skinner, AIA in Malibu. Unveiling its storied legacy, this striking residence stands as a testament to Skinner’s visionary prowess, with its design meticulously preserved and restored by the dedicated team at Maison d’Artiste. Situated across approximately three acres, this mid-century masterpiece boasts a seamless integration of indoor and outdoor spaces, inviting the oceanic panorama into every corner through expansive floor-to-ceiling windows that bathe the interiors in natural light.

From the moment you step foot into the Eckhardt House, a sense of timelessness and grandeur envelops you. The meticulous craftsmanship of the chef’s kitchen, adorned with designer appliances and bespoke cabinetry, seamlessly blends with the dining area and sunken living room, fostering an atmosphere of conviviality and culinary excellence. The primary suite, a sanctuary of tranquility, offers respite with its walk-in closet and private sauna, opening out onto the pool deck where endless ocean vistas stretch beyond the horizon, inviting moments of contemplation and relaxation. The entire residence revels in an inundation of natural light, with its liberating floor plan and towering windows casting a spotlight on the spectacular panoramic views of the ocean and coastline that adorn almost every space within.

Beyond its architectural splendor, the Eckhardt House embodies a rich narrative deeply interwoven with Malibu’s illustrious history. Commissioned in 1966 by physicist Gisela Eckhardt, the property was sold in late 2020 to a real estate developer with Maison d’Artiste entrusted to its new custodians with a solemn commitment to honor its legacy with a restoration that delivered a harmonious coexistence of past and present. Viewed by some as a work of modernist art, the Eckhardt House remains an iconic symbol of mid-century elegance, and unparalleled sophistication making it a true jewel of Malibu’s architectural landscape.

In an article, Robb Report wrote:

Completed in 1966 and sold for $4 million in late 2020 after Eckhardt’s passing to a real estate developer with Maison d’Artiste – complete with a staunch promise he had made to her that he would preserve the place in keeping with Skinner’s original design – the extensively restored property popped up on the market again in late 2022, asking a speck under $12 million.

Now, a little over a year and several price reductions later, the residence has traded hands once more, this time going for $9 million to digital media and technology veteran Javier Ferreira, co-CEO of the interactive entertainment company and mobile games publisher Scopely.
