Incline Village Project Breaks Ground: A New Era for Duluth's Waterfront

A major project is underway in Duluth, Minnesota, proving to be a big step for the city’s future. In early December 2024, workers started construction on a huge $500 million project. This new development, called Incline Village, aims to bring new homes, shops, and green spaces to the city. The project will be built where Duluth Central High School once stood. This spot offers some of the best views in the city. The plan includes over 1,300 homes, from apartments to condos, stores, and outdoor spaces for the community to enjoy.

A Growing City with New Goals

Duluth’s population has remained steady for decades, but local leaders want to see growth again. Mayor Roger Reinert said the goal is to have 90,000 residents by 2030. Duluth needs more housing for people of all income levels to achieve this. The first step of the Incline Village project is a 70-unit condo building, which is expected to be finished by the summer of 2026.

Helping the Community

At the groundbreaking event, Luzy Oestreicher, the project developer, presented a $5,000 donation to Chum, a local organization. The construction management team also donated 700 pounds of food to help those in need. These contributions show how the project is already making a difference.

Housing for All

Incline Village will provide 1300 new homes, including 1,180 rental apartments and 120 condos for sale. This is the largest housing development in Duluth in recent years. By offering homes of different sizes and prices, the project aims to attract a variety of people, from young professionals to families and retirees. With more housing, businesses will find it easier to attract workers to the area. This could lead to new opportunities and help Duluth’s economy grow.

A New Destination for Duluth

Incline Village will bring housing and shops to the city and create a space for recreation and relaxation. Plans include a public pavilion with breathtaking views, walking paths, and biking trails. This mixed-use community will be walkable and connected to nearby neighborhoods, making it easy for residents and visitors to enjoy all that Duluth offers.

A Community Effort

The Incline Village project is a turning point for Duluth. By addressing housing needs, creating jobs, and enhancing the waterfront, the city is laying the groundwork for a brighter future. As construction progresses, the project will likely attract more attention and investment, further enhancing Duluth’s reputation as a great place to live, work, and visit.
