Are you in the market for a new place to call home? Perhaps you’ve already rented an apartment and are wondering what you need to truly make it your own?
Everyone loves to accentuate their space. Yet, when you move into a new home, you’re likely unpacking all of your belongings and might overlook some of the essential items you need.
So how do you make sure you can get settled sooner?
We’ve all been there, and fortunately, we’ve compiled an apartment shopping list so you can feel at home more quickly.
Keep on reading to learn more about them!
1. Cleaning Materials
Before you do anything, you’ll want to clean your apartment.
While this sounds like a less-than-glamorous move-in day activity, cleaning your apartment before everything is in its place will help you get all this hard-to-reach nooks and crannies.
Many apartments are cleaned in between renters, but cleaning first will help you make sure it’s up to your standards. It can also help you identify any defects about which to inform the apartment complex.
2. Kitchenware
So now you have a clean apartment, but you have nothing with which to eat.
If you’re lucky, you’re able to sit on your living room floor with paper plates and plastic forks, but those won’t last forever. Soon, you’ll need actual kitchenware.
Here’s a list of all the kitchenware you’ll use regularly:
- Forks, spoons, and knives
- Pots and pans
- Plates
If you like to cook, add whatever you commonly use to that list, such as a crockpot or tabletop grill.
3. Bathroom Supplies
You don’t want to set up your whole apartment only to realize you don’t have things for your bathroom!
Bathroom supplies should be among the first necessities you purchase. You should purchase toiletries such as a toothbrush and toothpaste (if you don’t already have them), toilet paper, shampoo, conditioner, and body wash.
You also should buy a brush or comb, a shower caddy for all of your shower supplies, paper towel, toilet bowl cleaner, a plunger, and a scrub brush.
4. Buy Staples
When you’re unpacking, you’re not going to want to cook fancy, elaborate meals.
That’s why buying food staples is an essential part of this apartment shopping checklist. You’ll want something easy to prepare and non-perishable, such as rice, flour, or beans. You should also buy protein-rich items, such as meat or spinach.
Look for simple recipes you can easily prepare and begin developing a list of your favorites. That way, you can build routine, nutritious habits.
5. Bedroom Necessities
Finally, you’ll need items for your bedroom.
Most essentially, you must have a bed. Purchase a bed frame and a mattress, and then buy sheets, blankets, and pillows. Next, invest in a dresser, closet hangers, a nightstand, and any other items you’d like to have.
