Kenwood has become the stuff of legend. John Lennon, the British co-founder of the Beatles purchased the six-bedroom property in Weybridge, Surrey, for ยฃ20,000 (approx $26,000 USD) on July 15, 1964, and lived there with his first wife Cynthia, and his son Julian, until he sold it in December 1968, forever cementing the homes place in history. It is reported that much of Lennonโs song writing was carried out in the attic at Kenwood. This was where Lennon reportedly wrote hit songs such as โI am the Walrusโ and โLucy in the Sky with Diamondsโ.
After his initial purchase, an extensive renovation program was carried out by Lennon with a lavish interior design by Kenneth Partridge, however Lennon and Cynthia very quickly carried out further works to adapt the design to their taste. Originally built in 1913 by Love & Sons, this fantastic property has subsequently been significantly improved and thoroughly redone to modern luxury home standards in quite an elegant contemporary style throughout.
Kenwood is situated at the heart of the exclusive St Georgeโs Hill Estate, acknowledged as one of the UKโs premier private residential addresses. The home occupies a superb plateau position with magnificent landscaped gardens and grounds and enjoys uninterrupted views of the Surrey Hills. At the bottom of the garden there is a wonderful modern addition in the form of an indoor swimming pool complex offering a heated pool, shower and changing facilities along with further sauna. The mature landscaped gardens and grounds feature attractive York stone, split level entertaining terraces, low box hedging, specimen plants and herbaceous borders extending to approximately 1.5 acres (0.6 ha). Close to the centre of Weybridge, the greens and fairways of the St Georgeโs Hill Golf Club meander through the trees of the estate, whilst the Lawn Tennis, Squash and Croquet club offer superb facilities to complement its traditional facilities.
An idyllic setting, the estate provides gated security and privacy, offering an ideal commuter location only 17 miles from central London. The A3 is a short driving distance, providing access to London and the M25, which leads to the national motorway network as well as Heathrow and Gatwick airports. Schooling in the area is excellent and includes the ACS Cobham International School, St Georgeโs School/College in Weybridge and Claremont Fan Court School in Esher. Weybridge and the nearby towns of Esher, Cobham and Walton-on-Thames provide a comprehensive range of shopping outlets, variety of restaurants and recreational facilities.
