Tetris House, designed by Massive Order and completed in 2016, is a residential project located in Surra, Kuwait that offers a contemporary take on traditional Kuwaiti architecture. The house features a distinctive form composed of three main painted masses, cleverly veiled by two cladded walls, creating an intriguing interplay of volumes reminiscent of the Tetris game. The facade treatment is particularly noteworthy, with cladded walls strategically revealing and concealing openings to balance privacy and natural light. This thoughtful design ensures that windows on the side elevation, away from the main street, are larger and more exposed, while those facing the street remain discreetly hidden.

Inside, the Tetris House is designed with a horizontal circulation path that separates the two main masses, perpendicular to a tall mass housing the vertical circulation. This layout effectively creates a clear separation between different functional areas while maintaining a sense of flow and connectivity. The main entrance, featuring a 4 by 4-meter wood composition with two distinct doors—one for daily use and the other for guest entry—adds a unique and practical touch to the design. The interior is enriched with natural elements such as fountains, stones, and plants, complemented by a material palette of earthy tones and textures. A ground floor interior fountain in the reception space serves as both a visual and auditory buffer, separating the public reception area from the semi-public living room, enhancing the home’s sense of serenity and warmth.

Massive Order’s design of the Tetris House demonstrates their ability to innovate while respecting local climate and cultural needs. This project, along with their earlier work like the Street House, showcases a modern approach to Middle Eastern architecture that combines visual interest, functional efficiency, and privacy considerations. The Tetris House not only reflects the evolving architectural landscape of Kuwait but also highlights the country’s growing presence in the global design scene.
