Villa Apollon, designed by Athens-based Block722, is a cliffside holiday home located on the southern edge of the Greek island of Lefkada. Completed in early 2021, the contemporary villa seamlessly blends with the natural landscape, utilizing subterranean construction techniques that respect and restore the Mediterranean environment. The main home and separate guesthouse are built into the sloping topography, offering expansive views of the Ionian Sea while maintaining architectural discretion from the street above. The design capitalizes on long coastal vistas, using natural materials like teak, local stone, and bespoke timber elements, creating a modern yet tactile aesthetic.
The villa’s layout offers an immersive experience of indoor-outdoor living, with its spacious open-plan design oriented towards sea views and direct access to outdoor spaces. Natural light floods the interiors through floor-to-ceiling iroko wood-framed windows, while materials like plastered concrete and terrazzo floors complement the surroundings. Outdoor living areas include a fully equipped kitchen next to an infinity pool, seating spaces, and private guest suites with independent outdoor terraces. A series of terraces and natural paths lead down to a secluded rocky beach, enhancing the villa’s serene atmosphere.
Designed with the landscape in mind, Villa Apollon combines contemporary luxury with local architectural sensibilities. Block722’s approach, informed by their Greek and Scandinavian heritage, harmonizes the villa with its environment, allowing it to stand as a serene retreat that is deeply connected to the Mediterranean landscape. From its thoughtfully submerged design to the integration of natural materials, the project represents a modern architectural approach that respects and amplifies its stunning coastal setting.
